Product Review: Costco Protein Bars

Kirkland Signature Protein Bars

Yum. Yes, this product review is basically over, a one word summary is all you really need. Ok, maybe you’ll also need this tidbit of information: 3 to 4 grams of net carbs, now it’s over!

As a longtime Reddit lurker, I peruse many of the interesting sub-Reddits on a daily basis. In fact, Reddit is how I found out about the ketogenic way. The keto community over there is a great source of information, motivation, recipes, and success stories. The other day, a post jumped out at me about Costco’s latest keto friendly product: Kirkland Signature Protein Bars. The comments seemed positive and I knew that I had to try them. On our next weekly Costco run, I had a mission…to pick up a box of these and see if they live up to the hype.

I was desperate to satisfy that sweet tooth of mine, and boy did these protein bars satisfy! I was able to pick up a box of 20 protein bars for under $18 at my local Costco. They are also available online at Costco’s website, but you will get a better price by purchasing them locally if you can. Each box contains 10 Chocolate Brownie bars and 10 Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough bars, both flavors are equally delicious.

I think the macros on these are just fine. They work great for me as a snack or quick breakfast that I can take with me on the commute to work. Most importantly, they don’t kick me out of ketosis. Check out the numbers below:

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough:

  • Calories: 190
  • Total Fat: 7g
  • Total Carbs: 22g (Fiber: 15g, Erythritol: 4g, )
  • Net Carbs: 3g

Chocolate Brownie:

  • Calories: 190
  • Total Fat: 7g
  • Total Carbs: 23g (Fiber: 15g, Erythritol: 4g)
  • Net Carbs: 4g

All in all, I super happy with my new keto friendly find. I encourage anyone that is looking for a great tasting protein bar to look into these new Kirkland Signature Protein Bars from Costco!

  1. Don’t believe the labels! I’ve been in ketosis for a week(which hasn’t been easy because of my severe Hashimoto’s disease) 1 1/2 bars yesterday, and am showing ZERO signs of ketosis, now.

    1. I just want to point out that I have one for breakfast everyday and I’m rocking ketosis. I guess everyone’s body is different so your mileage will vary.

  2. Rocking the ketosis with these… just isn’t working. It’s about net carbs, yeah, but if your liver has to process the carbs in this shitty excuse of a keto bar, you’ll stall your ketosis. I say this because: A: I’m actually a doctor, and B: today I am on 25 pounds of weight loss. Just avoid high carbs, and let the natural net carbs be between 20 and 30 g per day. Stay with it, Sheryl!

  3. I am keeping these Costco bars in my drawer at work, for those 3:30- 4:00 slumps, when I really want a Snickers bar. The cost is good, the calories and protein rock. The bar is filling and takes the chocolate attack down .

Bonus, I feel more energy for working out after work.

  4. AMAZINGNESS!! I have had one of these babies EVERY day for the last 5 months and haven’t been knocked out of Keto yet! Down 27 lbs. Great find – thanks!

  5. […] They still deliver the same great taste and keep my on-the-run breakfasts keto friendly. See my first review of the protein bars for more […]

  6. I’m hooked on these for sure. Definitely curbs my sweet tooth when I’m having cravings. Only problem is, lately I’ve been wanting more than one in a sitting. A bit obsessed 😋

    1. Yes, same here!

      1. Been doing keto for almost a year and had only recently discovered these and fell in love instantly, but bad news, they are knocking me out of ketosis. The scale hadn’t been budging since I discovered them and I had a sneaking suspicion they were the culprit. So yesterday I did my own testing. Tested blood glucose and keto levels before I ate the bar, 88 bg and 1.1 ketones. Twenty-five minutes later bg was at 116! Five hours later and ketones were .6. They may be fine for some, and if your are exercising they probably aren’t making a huge impact, but keto is just way too much work to be screwing it up with these. Back on the hunt for a quick, filling, snack but you better believe I’ll be testing everything from now on.
